Beaufort Academy rode a dominant defensive performance to the first playoff win in program history, routing Holly Hill Academy 43-6 in the first round of the SCISA 8-Man Division I playoffs Friday.
Holly Hill grabbed an early lead with a defensive touchdown, but the Eagles took control from there. BA led 8-6 after one quarter and 24-6 at halftime before breaking it open in the second half.
De’Shaun Epps rushed for 196 yards and two touchdowns and added a 45-yard touchdown reception, and Jaxon Spratling added 103 yards and two TDs on the ground. Dawson Coleman was 2-for-4 for 55 yards and a score and added 35 yards and a TD on the ground, and Charlie Weeden booted a 28-yard field goal.
Edward McCormick collected 15 tackles, Sprawling added 12, and Daniel Richards had four tackles for loss and three pass break-ups to lead the defensive effort.
BA (5-5) will travel to face undefeated defending state champion Wardlaw Academy next week.
