HSFB: Thomas Heyward 42, John Paul II 20

J.R. Patterson rushed for three touchdowns and Logan Thomas ran for two scores and passed for another to lead Thomas Heyward to a 42-20 win over visiting John Paul II in a clash of Jasper County private-school rivals.

Patterson had a big night on the ground, scoring three times and setting up both of Thomas’ rushing touchdowns with long runs to finish with 307 yards on 20 carries. Thomas also threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Chipper Hammond that put the Rebels ahead 27-7 in the third quarter. River Pender added 109 yards on 13 carries for the Rebels.

JP2’s Zack Doe rushed for 139 yards on 17 carries, including an 80-yard touchdown, and surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Melik Frost added two touchdown runs in the second half for the Golden Warriors.

Thomas Heyward (3-2, 1-0 SCISA Region 2-1A) host Hilton Head Christian Academy next week, while John Paul II (3-3, 1-2) hosts Carolina Academy.
