The John Paul II volleyball team held off a strong comeback to claim a huge road win over rival Thomas Heyward on Thursday.
The Golden Warriors defeated the Rebels 3-2 (25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 21-25, 15-10) in a wild match between SCISA rivals.
Darby O’Donnell had a huge night for JP2 with 27 assists and a team-high eight aces, and Abigail Barker added a team-high 10 kills, 10 digs, and three aces. Marissa Majorkiewicz collected seven kills, four aces, and six digs, Jasmine Hamilton added seven kills, two aces, and 10 digs, and Alena Salazar added a team-high 16 digs.
Ivy Bryan racked up 19 kills, eight digs, and two aces to lead THA. Jana Christian had 12 digs, five kills, and five aces, while Bailey Brown collected 14 assists and five aces, and Victoria Standard added 15 assists. Emma Richardson had five kills and seven digs, and Gracie Wade added eight digs.
THA (1-2, 0-1 region) hosts Beaufort Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while JP2 (5-1, 1-0) hosts St. Andrew’s at 6 p.m. Thursday.
