The high school volleyball season got underway Tuesday, as John Paul II and Thomas Heyward Academy each dropped their season openers.
John Paul II lost a tough five-set match at Patrick Henry, falling 3-2 (16-25, 28-26, 25-18, 16-25, 12-15). Marissa Majorkiewicz led the Golden Warriors with 11 saves, and Jasmine Hamilton added nine, while Darby O’Donnell collected 23 assists. Majorkiewicz also had eight digs and three aces, while Eileen Lundblad and Abigail Barker added eight digs apiece.
The Rebels were swept at home by Habersham School, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-18).
John Paul II plays a scrimmage at home against May River at 6 p.m. Thursday before continuing regular-season play at Veritas at 5 p.m. Monday. Thomas Heyward plays at Holly Hill Academy at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24.
