The Beaufort County All-Stars started the Dixie Boys (14U) World Series in incredible fashion Saturday night at Oscar Frazier Park, as Cooper George threw a no-hitter and the host team smashed three home runs en route to a 12-0 mercy-rule win over Virginia.
George struck out 14 in the gem, allowing one walk and hitting one batter, and Beaufort County gave him plenty of support. Rakim White was 2-for-3 with a home run, Hayden Jennings was 2-for-3 with a three-run blast, and Niko Laing was 2-for-3 with a three-run shot in the sixth inning that invoked the 10-run rule.
“We played a complete game with a total team effort,” Beaufort County coach Brian Laing said. “We have a big test tomorrow playing Texas. It will tell us where we stand.”
Beaufort County will face Texas, a 14-2 winner over Arkansas, at 7 p.m. Sunday.
In the Dixie Junior Boys World Series, the host team didn’t fare as well, as Beaufort County lost 22-8 to Mississippi and will play an elimination game at 4 p.m. Sunday.
