Two local junior golfers claimed top-10 finishes Friday in the S.C. Junior Golf Association’s Grant Bennett Florence Junior Invitational at Florence Country Club.
Beaufort’s Jerry Bruns (69-79) took a one-shot lead into the final round but slipped to a third-place finish in the boys 11-12 age group, seven shots back of champion Adam Hunt of Columbia.
In the boys 15-18 division, Bluffton’s Drew Weary (71-71) finished eighth, six shots behind champion Walker Jones of Sumter. Fellow Bluffton resident Connor Moore (74-73) tied for 16th along with Fripp Island’s Tommy Holloway (71-76), while Bluffton’s Brandon McBride (73-75) tied for 21st.
Hilton Head Island’s Max Green (79-77) tied for 12th in the boys 13-14 division.
The event is the longest-running junior golf tournament in South Carolina and boasts an impressive list of past champions, including reigning RBC Heritage champ Wesley Bryan.
