Bluffton triathlete Yorlliry “George” Moreno claimed the overall title in the second race of the Charleston Sprint Triathlon Series on Sunday on James Island, solidifying his hold on first place in the overall series standings.
Moreno, 26, finished in 56:27 to edge 19-year-old Miles Fowler by 30 seconds, giving him wins in the first two events of the five-race series.
Moreno was first out of the water, completing the 600-yard freshwater swim in 6:59, and he padded his lead with a strong 12-mile bike in 28:22 – the second-fastest time on the bike. Fowler made up ground with the day’s fastest 5K run in 18:24, but Moreno was able to finish the run in 19:55 and coast to the finish.
Moreno won the first race of the series on May 21, finishing in 55:29, and has 20,761 points through two events with Fowler in second with 20,303.
