Beaufort’s Matt O’Quinn Leads Local Contingent In S.C. Match Play Qualifying

Four Beaufort County golfers advanced to the 32-player match play bracket at the Carolinas Golf Association’s 45th S.C. Amateur Match Play Championship on Thursday at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg.

Beaufort’s Matt O’Quinn fired a 5-under 67 in Thursday’s second round to finish the 36-hole stroke play qualifier at 7-under and earn the No. 3 seed. O’Quinn will face No. 30 seed Christian Garruppo of Hilton Head Island in Friday’s first round at 9:02 a.m.

Nick Russell of Hilton Head Island shot 5-under to earn the No. 6 seed and will face No. 27 Brandon Hiott of Walterboro at 9:18 a.m.

Hilton Head’s Andrew Orischak is the No. 10 seed and faces No. 23 Matt Carter of Easley at 8:54 a.m.

Defending champion Connor Bruns of Duncan was exempt into the match play bracket and will be the top seed. Former Hilton Head Island High School teacher Todd White of Spartanburg was the stroke play medalist at 11-under-par 133 and will be the No. 2 seed in the bracket.
