Battery Creek volleyball dominated in the opening frame but could not replicate the success in the remaining three sets, falling to Academic Magnet 3-1 (25-20, 7-25, 17-25, 16-25) on Thursday night at the Palace.
Brooke Crosby started serving with the score 2-2 and the Dolphins began a 6-0 run forcing the Raptors to burn an early timeout. Two more points followed after the break and Creek began pulling away as the set continued. With the lead at nine, BC made it set point, but AMHS battled to within four before Amber Cooklin finished the set off with a kill.
The Dolphins struggled in set number two, not being able to muster much offense. The Raptors were in complete control from the first serve and won 25-7.
Creek’s offense fared better in the frame three, keeping within arms length of AMHS for much of the set. The Dolphins rallied to make it 19-14 but couldn’t undo a couple of miscommunication errors and set went to Magnet, 25-17.
The offense tried to keep pace in stanza four, but the Raptors took the lead midway through the set and the Dolphins could never recover, dropping the final set 25-16.
Battery Creek travels to Hanahan on Tuesday with both teams battling for the fourth seed in the region. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
