Beaufort High’s girls played their first game on their new artificial turf field Tuesday and came away with an impressive 2-1 win over SCISA power Porter-Gaud.
On a wet and brisk evening, the Eagle took control early with a series of passes that freshman Payton Mullen finished off for the first goal of the game.
Beaufort doubled its lead midway through the second half, when senior Caroline Louw gathered a through-ball and beat the keeper to make it 2-0.
The Cyclones answered to cut the deficit in half, but freshman Lexy Jones anchored Beaufort’s defense to preserve the one-goal margin, and Quinn Wilson was a monster in goal with 14 saves.
Beaufort (1-0) hosts Pinewood Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
