May River’s boys went ice cold in the fourth quarter, allowing a nine-point lead to slip away in the final period of a 36-32 home loss to Effingham County on Saturday.
The Sharks limited the Rebels to three points in the first quarter and led 20-12 at halftime. May River extended the lead to 31-22 after three quarters, but Effingham County outscord the Sharks 14-1 in the final period.
James Layman led the Sharks with 15 points, while Steffin Gadson, Garvin Douglas, and Gavin Blocker added five points each.
May River (1-3) opens region play at Colleton County on Tuesday.
