Hilton Head High wrestling split a double dual at South Effingham on Wednesday, as a short-handed Seahawks squad was able to knock off Benedictine but fell to the host Mustangs.
The Seahawks were not at full strength with a handful of starters out of the lineup, but they had enough firepower for a 46-27 win over the Cadets.
Tristan Simmons, KJ Holland, and Devin Espinoza started off with pins to give HHIHS an 18-0 lead, and after two Benedictine pins, Jessie Salinas won by fall and Brayven Shapiro won by forfeit to make it 20-12 as the lineup flipped over the lower weights. Mack Ford’s pin, Garry Greenburg’s win by forfeit, and Darnell Brawner’s major decision closed out the victory for the Seahawks.
Brawner was the only HHIHS wrestler to go 2-0 on the night, also picking up a decision in a 61-12 loss to a strong South Effingham squad. Drew Vigh pinned his Mustangs opponent in his only match of the night, and Chris Crosby won a decision at 182.
The Seahawks (4-1) will travel to Fort Dorchester for a dual Friday
