HSFB: Rebels spread the wealth in rout of Hawks

The regular season finale went according to plan for Thomas Heyward Academy, which clobbered visiting Greenwood Christian 53-7 on Friday to wrap up a perfect region slate.

Seven different Rebels scored touchdowns — all in the first half — as THA raced out to a 46-0 lead before the Hawks took a punt return back for a score just before halftime.

Tony Obanner opened the scoring with a touchdown run, and Cody Parker hauled in a TD pass from Tyshon Mansell just a few plays after having a pick-6 called back on a penalty. James Townsend added his mark with a punt return touchdown, then Brandon Howard picked off a pass to set up his own touchdown run to make it 26-0.

Anthony Fripp, Nicolas Robinson, and Walker Taylor all added touchdown runs to open the margin up to 46-0, and the Hawks’ punt return TD made it 46-7 at halftime. Robinson added a second touchdown run in the second half to cap the scoring.

Obanner rolled up 89 yards on nine carries with a touchdown, while Fripp added 44 yards and a TD on just three attempts. Robinson took over from there and racked up 74 yards and two TDs on 10 carries. Mansell was 3-for-4 for 46 yards and two TDs.

THA’s defense came up with four interceptions, including a pair from Parker and one each from Howard and Jordan Mikell.

The Rebels (9-1, 5-0) will open the playoffs at home Friday against Dillon Christian, beginning their quest for a fourth consecutive SCISA 1A title.
