HSBBB: Hargrove hits 1K, but JPII holds off Eagles

Hilton Head Christian Academy senior Floyd Hargrove scored his 1,000th career point, but his Eagles fell short to the John Paul II Golden Warriors on Friday night, losing 62-50.

Just three days after getting steamrolled by Hilton Head Prep, the Golden Warriors picked up a massive bounce back win on the road.

The atmosphere was excellent, as students packed the HHCA corner and the JPII faithful came in numbers, making for a loud and energy-filled night.

It was a fast-paced first quarter, with each team putting up 12 points. But JPII kicked up the shooting in the second, scoring 19 and taking a seven-point lead into halftime.

The Eagles, however, hung around through the beginning of the second half, and then the place exploded. On a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter, Hargrove passed the 1,000 point milestone. The game was paused, and Hargrove was given a basketball to honor the achievement, being joined by his parents at center court.

The energy from the big milestone looked like it was the spark to bring the Eagles back, but JPII quickly turned things around and put the game away.

On a night they needed to respond on offense after scoring just 38 points against HHP, five Golden Warriors finished in double figures.

Reco Anderson led the charge with 15 points, CJ Knight scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Malone Kinard-Huisinger, Jackson Ogden, and Jeremiah Young put up 10 points each.

Hargrove was the man of the night for the Eagles, pouring in 22, and Jace Blackshear added 11 for HHCA.
