In a few hours, we’ll announce the Week 3 RBC Heritage Player of the Week, but before we do, we want to celebrate the guys who worked behind the scenes to help this week’s nominees put up those numbers and played a mostly unseen role in their teams’ success on Friday night.
We call them the Unsung Heroes presented by Candor USA, and here they are for Week 3:
Keith Bing, WB — The senior’s kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second half ignited the Warriors after a lackluster first half and propelled them to a 36-12 win at Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
Luke Bond and Chase Wilfong, BLHS — The offensive line duo of junior Bond and sophomore Wilfong did not allow a sack and combined for eight pancake blocks while helping the Bobcats roll up 488 total yards in a win over Hanahan.
Kent Camp, HHCA — Junior defensive lineman collected nine tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, and a blocked PAT in a 57-40 win over Bethesda Academy.
Therion Cannon, THA — The Rebels rolled up 492 total yards in a win at Hilton Head Prep with a big assist from their junior offensive tackle.
Xavier Chaplin, WB — The Warriors ran behind the big sophomore offensive lineman in virtually every critical situation Friday, and he delivered in a 36-12 win at Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
John Hewlett, THA — Junior lineman got the job done on both sides of the line of scrimmage Friday, helping the Rebels dominate in the trenches in a 44-7 win at Hilton Head Prep.
Kailin Prescott-Ferguson, MRHS — “Big Man” was a road grader on Friday, paving the way for nearly 400 yards of total offense in a win over Hilton Head High
Bryce Summers, MRHS — The Sharks’ kicker got a workout Friday, going 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-6 on PATs in a 46-10 win over Hilton Head High.
Brandon Wilson, BCHS — The Dolphins’ defense kept them in the game for a half Friday at Woodland, and Wilson led the way with five tackles, a tackle for loss, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a TD.
Uriel Zarracan and Evan Hayes, BLHS — The Bobcats are blessed with two outstanding kickers, which allows Zarracan to specialize in punting while Hayes handles most of the placekicking. They combined for five PATs, five touchbacks, and a 44-yard average punt in Friday’s win over Hanahan.
