The Skinny: Beaufort Academy began what figures to be a bit of a rebuilding year with a 42-7 loss to Northwood Academy last weekend, but the Eagles get a more fair fight for their home opener at Merritt Field. BA’s offense couldn’t get going against a stout defensive front, but there should be more room and time to operate this week. Hilton Head Prep brings a 24-game losing streak into new coach Doug McFadden’s debut, and a renewed commitment to the weight room and a bulked up coaching staff combined with a move to SCISA 2A have created high hopes for a turnaround in Sea Pines.
Players to watch: BA RB Nyc Underwood found success in the second half against Northwood and finished with 71 yards on 19 carries and BA’s lone touchdown … QB Dietrich Shuford will be the most dynamic offensive player on the field and can hurt defenses with his arm and his leg … LB Grady Lamm had a team-high six tackles against Northwood … HHP QB Wyatt Harmer is bigger, faster, and stronger than a year ago and could flourish under OC Steve Fuller, a former Clemson legend and NFL quarterback … OL/DL Jake Sheahan (6-3, 210) is a force in the trenches with the potential to play at the next level.
