When a high-caliber foe comes into Hilton Head Christian Academy, Ron Peduzzi and the Eagles always seem to find a way to step up their game. Friday night was no different.
Jace Blackshear threw for three touchdowns while adding another on the ground, and the Junkyard Dog defense forced four turnovers as Hilton Head Christian blitzed SCISA 3A Pinewood Prep 48-14.
“This was more than a statement — this was an exclamation against a great 3A team,” senior Jackson Lanier said. “Coming into this game, everyone was thinking it would be a dogfight. We worked our butt off the entire week, and it really showed on the field tonight.”
The Eagles pounced on the Panthers early, as Blackshear carved up the defense for a 60-yard scoring run before Speedy Robinson worked his magic on a dazzling 57-yard punt return to the house. The senior found the end zone again on a three-yard run to take a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.
“Speedy’s been a great piece to our offense,” Lanier said. “He just adds another level of versatility and it freed just about everything for our offense tonight.”
Blackshear then put on a show through the air, firing two touchdown passes to Lanier and one to Isaiah Anderson while Peter Nodelman Jr. added a five-yard scamper on the ground for an unstoppable Eagle offense. HHCA scored the first 48 points of the game — all in the first half — before the home team let off the gas after halftime.
Blackshear was outstanding once again, throwing for 187 yards and three scores while racking up 105 rushing yards with a touchdown. Robinson did it all, totaling 66 yards on the ground and a touchdown to go with four catches for 81 yards plus a punt-return score.
The HHCA defense feasted all night long, as Robinson, Lanier, and Riley Shinn each picked off a pass while holding an electric Panther offense off the scoreboard in the first half.
HHCA (6-0, 2-0) hosts Bethesda Academy on Friday.
