HSFB: Douglas shines as Sharks trounce Trojans

It’s good to be king, and it was good to be Garvin Douglas on Friday night in The Tank.

May River’s star quarterback rushed for three touchdowns and threw a long TD pass — and he was named homecoming king at halftime — as the Sharks rolled to a 35-18 home win over James Island to open Region 7-4A play.

Douglas opened the scoring with a 1-yard plunge and added a 13-yard TD run to make it 14-6 at halftime. After collecting his crown, the senior star broke off a 48-yard scoring run to open the second half, then hit James Layman for a 65-yard TD to make it 28-12.

Cam Scott added a second-half touchdown run for the Sharks, and May River’s defense turned in another strong effort. Jaiden Jones was in the backfield all night and collected four sacks, and TyQuan Calloway recovered a fumble.

May River (4-2, 1-0) travels to rival Bluffton in the Hometown Showdown next Friday.
