HSVB: BA stands tall in sweep of Mighty Lions

Beaufort Academy volleyball kept pace in the SCISA Region 4 standings with a 3-0 sweep of crosstown rival Holy Trinity on Tuesday.

The Eagles were in top form from the start, cruising to a 25-12 win in the first set before holding off challenges from the Mighty Lions in 25-17 and 25-19 victories to close out the sweep.

Claire Tumlin had a big night all over the court for the Eagles with a team-high eight kills, 13 assists, and 10 digs, and Margaret Hiers had a nearly identical line with six kills, 13 assists, and nine digs. Grace Simmons was a monster in the middle with seven kills and three blocks, and Maddie Nelson added six kills in a strong performance by BA’s front row. Mary Hanna Hiers picked up 17 digs to anchor the defense and added two aces.

Holy Trinity’s Lilly Cooler collected four kills, six digs, four assists, and an ace in a strong effort, while Rachel Cain (17 digs) and Izzy Harter (12 digs) anchored the defense for the Mighty Lions.

BA (8-3, 6-1) has the rest of the week off before hosting Colleton Prep on Tuesday. Holy Trinity (5-9-1, 0-5) is back in action Thursday, traveling to Hilton Head Prep.
