Whale Branch softball opened its season on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep at the hands of visiting Bridges Prep on Monday.
Baylee Stevenson went 2-for-3 with three runs and Mackenzie Hamrick had an RBI double and scored twice in an 11-2 win in the opener for Bridges, which took advantage of 11 walks.
Chyla Simmons and Alicia Davis each had a hit and an RBI to lead Whale Branch at the plate.
Jenna Shipley struck out eight and allowed two runs (one earned) to earn the win for Bridges. Maleeah Parker took the loss for the Warriors.
Shipley outdueled Parker again in a 7-3 Bridges win in the nightcap. Shipley struck out 10 and allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings, while Zy’Eria Wright was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Stevenson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bucs.
Chyla Simmons, Jada Pryor, and Melodi Bardo each had a hit, and Azaria Simmons drove in a run for Whale Branch.
