Beaufort Academy’s girls will play for a SCISA 1A state championship Saturday in Sumter. The Eagles sailed through the semifinals Thursday night, routing Patrick Henry 71-49 at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
Freshman Mike’Ala Washington continued her outstanding play, pouring in 23 points to lead the Eagles, while senior Amelia Huebel added 18 points and freshman Tahleea Heyward contributed 13.
Emily Ann Hiers added eight points and Becca Frelin had seven for the Eagles, who were able to jump out to a 38-14 halftime lead and cruised to their third playoff win in five days.
Now they have one more on tap — a state championship clash with Dorchester Academy at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sumter Civic Center. The Raiders knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs last year, beating BA 50-45 in the semifinals.
BA (21-3) got one round of revenge Thursday against Patrick Henry, paying back the Patriots for a semifinal loss two years ago, and they’ll get another chance Saturday.
