HSBBB: Jags still perfect in 2020 after taking care of Sharks (+ đź“· GALLERY)

It took a couple of months for the Ridgeland-Hardeeville boys to shuffle the deck and find their best hand, but the Jaguars are coming up all aces in 2020.

The Jags remained unbeaten in the new calendar year and maintained their spot atop the Region 8-3A standings with an impressive 65-41 road win over May River on Friday. RHHS has won eight straight since falling to Bishop England in the finals of the Orangeburg County Sweet 16 tournament on Dec. 30.

Brandon Howard led a balanced output for the Jags with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals, while Mauriq Singleton collected 11 points, six boards, three assists, and three steals. Sha’Leaf Cherry added 11 points and four steals, and Rashard Baker had nine points, five assists, and six steals.

The Jaguars had a comfortable 30-16 halftime lead, but they squashed any chance of a May River comeback by bursting out of the gate after halftime. Howard scored 10 points and Cherry added nine during a a third quarter in which RHHS outscored the Sharks 24-9. As usual, it was the Jags’ defense that fueled the game-breaking run.

“We’re playing good defense, getting good shots, and making them,” Howard said. “We’ve been having good practices and coming in and just dominating.”

Harry Cash scored 10 points and James Layman added eight for the Sharks.
