HSBBB: Seahawks flip the script, scorch Dolphins

For most of this month, it has been the home team that has been on fire at Hilton Head Prep. But on Wednesday night, it was the visitors who were scorching.

Hilton Head High beat the Dolphins at their own game, draining threes and locking down on defense en route to a 55-47 win over their cross-island rivals.

In what was likely the most impressive 16 minutes of basketball they have played this year, the Seahawks stymied the home team on both ends in the first half, scoring 33 points and limiting the high-octane Dolphin offense to just eight. Prep could not buy a three in the opening act.

“We came out really hot tonight and that helped us extend that lead, but we did get cold in the second half,” Seahawks coach Chane Brown said.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they woke up a little too late. Tyrone Calloway and Stone McDonald found their offense in the second half, but they couldn’t escape the massive 25-point hole.

“Our game plan was to not give Calloway much room to shoot or do anything, and it kind of rattled him in the first half,” Brown said. ”In the second half we got a little lax and he made some shots.”

A balanced Seahawk attack got the job done. Dean Seelbach put up 14, including a pair of threes to get some important separation in the second quarter. Jaylen Sneed and Gaston Moore scored nine apiece, while Aaron Farrell and Adam Clark added six each off the bench.

Despite an ice-cold start, Calloway scored a game-high 20 points, and Stone McDonald racked up 14 for the Dolphins.
