The Whale Branch girls picked up a huge region win Thursday, beating Class 2A No. 10 Barnwell 44-34 on the road.
Kynew Barnwell scored 14 points, Zhani Thompson had 12, and Jazmin Diaz added 10 to lead the Warriors, who outscored the Warhorses 16-8 in the second quarter to open up an 11-point halftime advantage.
Barnwell scored 11 of her 14 in the second half to help hold off a charge from the Warhorses, who were within seven going to the fourth quarter before the Warriors closed it out.
