HSGBB: Seahawks come up short in defensive battle

Hilton Head High suffered a tough 39-34 loss to Southside on Monday on the last day of the 33rd annual Seahawk Holiday Classic.

After the first three minutes were scoreless, it was evident that tough defense was going to set the tone for the matchup. Big hustle plays on defense helped keep the Seahawks within striking distance of the Tigers.

“I thought we played really good defense, it’s what kept us in the game,” Coach Sean Rochester said. “It was a physical game and we matched their physicality well.

After a close first half, the Tigers pulled away to a nine-point lead after the third quarter and Southside’s offense began to find ways to effectively attack the Seahawks’ defense.

The problem was the offense for the Seahawks, and Rochester emphasized that their turnovers led to layups in Monday’s match.

Hilton Head High’s comeback in the fourth quarter fell short and the Seahawks suffered a loss to end their home tournament.
