Hilton Head High improved their record to 2-0 with a 40-27 win over Hilton Head Prep on Friday.
Both teams started the night slowly, combining for 16 total points in the first period of play. Even with the slow start, the Seahawks built an early advantage and led by at least 10 points throughout the game.
Miley Ray led all scorers with 17 points and tallied 15 rebounds for the Seahawks, while Chyna Fields added eight points and 11 rebounds. Ella Clark led the Dolphins with 13 points.
Hilton Head High coach Sean Rochester gave the defense credit for Friday’s win as the Seahawks relied heavily on rebounding throughout the night to maintain possession of the ball.
“There’s an old saying in basketball that you can trust defense and rebounding every single night, even when shots aren’t falling,” Rochester said. “That held true tonight. Miley grabbed 15 rebounds, Chyna grabbed 11, and Morgan Wright added eight. They’re all 5-8 or less, so it’s just a credit to how hard they work every night.”
The Seahawks will look to improve their record to 3-0 when they travel to Oceanside Collegiate Academy at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Dolphins (2-3) tip off at 6 p.m. at Memorial Day on Tuesday.
