May River has hometown bragging rights for another year. The Sharks made sure of that.
Melik Frost scored three rushing touchdowns in his May River debut, Ahmad Green added two scoring runs, and the Sharks’ defense took two turnovers back to the end zone in a 54-14 win over rival Bluffton in the latest installment of the Hometown Showdown on Friday.
The defense got the Sharks on the board first, as Steffin Gadson picked off Bluffton’s Lee Kirkland and returned it for a score. After Green broke a long scoring run from near midfield, Johnathan Gaston scooped up a Bobcat fumble and took it to the end zone for a 20-0 lead.
Cameron Scott and Frost added touchdown runs in the second quarter to make it 33-0 at halftime, and Frost hit paydirt again in each of the third and fourth quarters to extend the lead to 47-0.
Kylan Simmons scored a rushing touchdown to get the Bobcats on the board in the fourth quarter, and Kirkland connected with Rakim White for a TD pass to make it 47-14 before Green capped the scoring with his second touchdown run of the night.
The Sharks (1-0) travel to Whale Branch next Friday for a matchup of undefeated teams. The Bobcats (0-2) will look for their first victory when they host Ridgeland-Hardeeville.
