Bluffton National scored four runs in the sixth inning to claim a wild 9-8 win over Hilton Head in the winner’s bracket of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 8 O-Zone (11-12) Tournament on Saturday at Burton Wells Park in Beaufort.
After Hilton Head plated seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-5 lead, Bluffton National responded with four in the top of the sixth and slammed the door after Hilton Head loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame.
Archer Dewig had a double and two RBIs, and Cooper Deitch added two hits and an RBI for Bluffton National. Ryan Goll picked up the win in relief.
JP Pirkey was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Tyler Britschge added two hits and two RBIs for Hilton Head.
Colleton County eliminated Beaufort with a 16-1 victory and will face Hilton Head in an elimination game at 6 p.m. Sunday. The winner will advance to the championship round and need to defeat Bluffton National twice to claim the district title.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament will earn a berth in the state tournament July 12-18 in Bluffton. Bluffton American already has a host bid to the state tournament.
