John Paul II’s boys gave one of their best efforts of the season before losing in penalties to Pinewood Prep on Monday.
The Golden Warriors played the Panthers to a 3-3 draw through regulation and two overtime periods before being outscored 5-4 in six rounds of penalties.
Pinewood Prep jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Derek Medina scored off a Noah Brock assist to pull JPII within 2-1 at halftime. The Panthers tacked on a goal for a 3-1 lead, but Sebastian Laverde scored a pair of goals with assists from Brock and Gabe Orta-Carillo to force overtime.
Orta-Carrillo, Brock, Medina, and Ben Richardson all converted penalties in the shootout for the Golden Warriors.
JPII (7-8-1) wraps up the regular season Wednesday at Hilton Head Prep.
