Wade Hampton rallied for four runs in the seventh to force extra innings, then added three more in the eighth to claim an 8-7 win at May River on Friday.
The Sharks led 5-1 after six innings, but a one-out error in the top of the seventh loaded the bases ahead of Casyn Dobson’s game-tying grand slam. Dobson added an RBI single in the three-run eighth, and May River left the tying run at third with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth.
Despite the loss, May River clinched the Region 8-3A title.
John Pesaturo was 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI to lead the Sharks at the plate.
The Sharks (11-7, 7-1) play in the Mingo Bay Tournament at Carolina Forest High School next week before opening the Class 3A playoffs.
