Hughson Tops Age Group, Leads H2A To 8th Place At State Swim Meet

The Hilton Head Aquatics swim team placed eighth in the combined team standings, while the Bluffton Fins were 15th at the South Carolina Long Course State Championships this weekend in Columbia.

H2A claimed eight individual wins, and Tommy Hughson was the top point-scorer in the 13-14 boys division. Hughson won the 200-meter backstroke (2:19.41), finished second in the 400 free and 200 individual medley, and placed third in the 200 free and 400 IM to lead H2A to an eighth-place finish in the boys team standings.

Cohen Bruner claimed three individual titles – 50 free (26.21), 100 free (56.84), and 200 free (2:04.35) – to finish ninth in the 13-14 boys division, while Noah Corbitt was fifth in the open boys division with a win in the 400 free (4:05.96) and runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 free.

Also in the open boys division, Kevin Geist won the 200 butterfly (2:11.61) and placed third in the 100 fly.

H2A finished ninth in the girls standings with a balanced performance.

Sarah Reamy claimed three top-five finishes in the open division, including a win in the 1500 free (17:40.64), while Chloe Corbitt was runner-up in the 100 fly and third in the 200 fly and 400 free. Meaghan Lyons won the 200 breaststroke (2:42.93), and Skylar Bruner was second in the 1500 free in the 11-12 age group.

Erek Nelson led the Bluffton Fins to a 15th-place finish in the boys standings, placing seventh in the boys individual standings by winning the 100 back (58.33) and 200 back (2:03.64) and placing fourth in the 200 free.

Joey Ingram finished 10th in the 11-12 boys standings, including a runner-up finish in the 50 fly. On the girls side, Shelby Gourley was third in the 200 breaststroke.

The final day of the meet was cut short due to thunderstorms.
