Bluffton race car driver Gus Dean posted another top-10 finish – his ninth consecutive top-10 showing – at the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 on Friday night at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Dean rolled off the line 15th after slipping in qualifying in the No. 32 GREE Cooling Products Toyota Camry but moved inside the top 10 following his first pit stop and stayed there for most of the evening. The 22-year-old driver was running seventh at the halfway point and moved up to fourth when he elected to put off a pit stop during a caution with 70 laps to go.
He was able to pit for four tires under another yellow flag a few laps later and charged into the top five before a thunderstorm brought the yellow back out. The green flag finally came out with 12 laps remaining, and Dean held on for a sixth-place finish, while Dalton Sargeant held off Michael Self to take the checkered flag.
“Awesome job last night by the GREE Racing Win-Tron Racing team,” Dean said on Twitter. “Started out a little rough, but as always my boys had us fast at the end.”
Dean moved up one spot to fourth in the overall ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards points race and broke a tie with Bret Holmes atop the Scott Rookie Challenge standings, as Holmes finished eighth Friday night.
Dean will be back on the track Friday for the Pocono ARCA 150 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.
