Beaufort weightlifting phenom CJ Cummings was selected as the top male athlete of the month in Team USA’s Best of June awards, the U.S. Olympic Committee announced Thursday.
The honor qualifies Cummings for the 2017 Best of the Year awards, which will be handed out at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 on NBC.
Cummings, a 17-year-old rising senior at Beaufort High School, won his fourth consecutive IWF World Championship as he defended his title at the junior world championships. Cummings previously won titles at the 2016 Junior World Championships, 2016 Youth World Championships and 2017 Youth World Championships, and will represent Team USA at the Pan-American Championships later this month.
