HS Soccer: JPII Boys Roll To First-Round Rout

John Paul II’s boys opened the SCISA Class 1A playoffs with a dominant 9-2 win over South Aiken Baptist on Monday.

Sebastian Laverde opened the scoring in the fourth minute and finished with two goals and two assists, and Derek Medina scored a hat trick to the lead the Golden Warriors. Noah Brock had two goals and an assist, Nic Richardson had a goal and an assist, and Hampton Wyman added a goal.

Jonathan Barragan, Anthony Cedeno, and Gabe Orta-Carrillo notched assists for JPII.

Nyleem Wright only had to make one save in goal as the Golden Warriors turned in a strong defensive effort. All-State striker Baker Yarnell scored both goals for South Aiken Baptist, ending his season with 36 goals.

JPII travels to top-seeded The King’s Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday for a semifinal matchup.
