USCB Men Shoot 9-Under In Final Round To Surge To Sun Conference Title

USCB’s charged from eight shots back entering the final round to claim the Sun Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday at Plantation Preserve Golf Club in Florida.

The NAIA fifth-ranked Sand Sharks posted an impressive team score of 9-under-par 279 in the final round to finish at 11-under 853 for the week and edge No. 6 Keiser by one shot for their first Sun Conference title since 2011.

Sophomore Newport Laparojkit shot 2-under in the final round to finish at 3-under and tie for third. He also was named the Sun Conference Player of the Year.

USCB’s Bobby Dunphy tied for sixth at 1-under and clinched the team victory with a birdie and three straight pars on his final four holes after struggling to four straight bogeys. Jack Faraci fired a 7-under 65 in the final round to surge into the top 10, while Keith Murphy shot 71 on Tuesday to finish 12th at 2-over and Marc Sweeney tied for 17th at 5-over.

USCB’s Danny Allen was voted the Sun Conference Coach of the Year.

The Sand Sharks earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships from May 15-18 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
