HS T&F: Beaufort High Shines At Sandlapper, Jones Named Outstanding Athlete

Beaufort High’s girls’ track & field team finished third and the boys were fifth at the Sandlapper Classic on Saturday in Charleston.

Keyasha Brown won the 100-meter hurdles in 16.21 seconds and Layla Warren was third as the sprinters led the Eagles’ girls. The 4×100 relay team finished second, and Jahniya Lynch was fifth in the 100 meters. Nigeria Davila (high jump) and Ariaughn Bobian (long jump) posted fourth-place finishes, and Brittany Linton (high jump) and Jada Scott (triple jump) had fifth-place showings.

On the boys’ side, Reggie Jones Jr. won the pole vault (13-0) and placed second in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles to earn Most Outstanding Athlete honors and a $500 scholarship. Kagel Coke (pole vault), Isaiah Parker (shot put), and James Dagin (long jump) had third-place finishes, and the Eagles were fifth in the 4×400, 4×800, and 4×1600 relays.

May River’s boys finished sixth behind strong performances in the relays. The Sharks were third in the 4×400 and fourth in the 4×100 and 4×800. Nick Patterson finished third in the triple jump, and Melvin Livermon (200) and Beau Bischoff (pole vault) had fourth-place finishes.

The Sharks also used strong showings in the relays to finish seventh in the girls standings. May River won the 4×1600 relay and finished second in the 4×800, third in the distance medley relay, and fifth in the 4×400. Cathryn Roberts (10-6) won the pole vault, and Emma Peluso was fourth in the 800.

Hilton Head High’s boys finished seventh with wins in the 4×800 relay and the DMR, and Ryan Moosbrugger won the 1,600 meters in 4:39.63. The Seahawks also placed fourth in the 4×1600.

The Seahawk girls’ also won the 4×800 and DMR and finished fifth in the 4×100 en route to a 10th-place overall finish.
