The Week 5 RBC Heritage HSFB Player of the Week Is …

The votes are in for the RBC Heritage High School Football Player of the Week, and we’ve drawn two conclusions from the results:

1. Y’all don’t much care for defense.

2. Beaufortonians must have been busy this week.

The turnout was pitifully low compared to past weeks, especially North of the Broad. After voting Beaufort High School’s Kyleik Middleton and Jeffrey Smyth to Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks, Eagles fans did not show up to vote for defensive standout Kagel Coke.

In fact, no one from North of the Broad got more than 3 percent of the vote.

Instead, this week belonged to the South of the Broad quarterbacks. Bluffton’s Hunter Eldridge garnered a healthy 16.6 percent of the vote after passing for 391 yards and four TDs in a wild 37-34 2OT win in the Bridge Bowl.

But our Week 5 RBC Heritage High School Football Player of the Week is Hilton Head Prep quarterback Stone McDonald, who passed for 227 yards and a TD and rushed for 81 yards and two TDs to lead the Dolphins to their first win, a 29-14 triumph at Palmetto Christian.

Thanks for voting. Let’s do it again next week.
