The LowcoSports HSFB Player of the Week Is …

The votes have been tallied, and we can definitively draw two conclusions:

1. There was decidedly less voter fraud than Week 1 (thanks to Sam Richardson for the help finding a better poll plugin).

2. Y’all should be working in politics, because you can get out the vote.

With an amazing 5,122 votes cast – seriously, I think we’ve elected county officials with less turnout – among 10 deserving players, we have a clear-cut winner. And for the second week in a row, the people voted for the player we deemed most deserving.

Your LowcoSports.com High School Football Player of the Week is Beaufort High’s Jeffrey Smyth.

Eagles coach Mark Clifford doesn’t always ask a lot of his quarterbacks, but Smyth showed he is more than simply a game manager in Friday’s 48-13 win over rival Battery Creek. He was 8-for-12 passing for 190 yards and rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps most impressive, he played both ways – a rarity for a quarterback at the Class 4A level – and made two tackles and two pass breakups.

Well done, Mr. Smyth. And well done, voters.

Let’s do it again next week, shall we?
