Longtime BA Hoops Coach Dinkins Steps Down

Longtime Beaufort Academy boys basketball coach Chip Dinkins is stepping away from coaching, the school announced in a release.

Dinkins, who missed most of last season after suffering a torn aorta, has coached at BA since 1999, when he began as the junior varsity coach. An alumnus of BA, Dinkins led his alma mater to the postseason 10 times, including a SCISA state championship in 2006.

“Coach Dinkins and I have worked and coached together at BA for three years but have been good friends for a long time,” BA athletics director Neal McCarty said in the release. “I have a good feeling that he still will be involved in some capacity. Chip is a legend around campus, and the ‘voice of the Eagles’ on Friday nights in the fall. I can’t thank Coach Dinkins enough for everything he has done for our school and basketball program up to today.  Beaufort Academy is a better place, and basketball is a better program because of Coach Dinkins.”

McCarty is in the search process of finding Dinkins’ successor and is accepting resumes and references at nmccarty@beaufortacademy.org as well as phone inquiries at 843-524-3393, ext. 240.
