HSFB: Hanahan 27, May River 8

May River’s defense held up for a half, but the Sharks couldn’t generate enough offense to keep pace with Hanahan in a season-opening defeat.

The Sharks were stuffed at the 1-yard line on fourth down early in the second quarter, but Ridge Dowe’s tackle in the end zone for a safety put May River ahead 2-0. The Sharks had a chance to add to the lead, but Bryce Summers hit the upright with a 22-yard field goal try, and Hanahan answered with a long drive capped by quarterback Jake Ward’s 9-yard touchdown run with 2:28 left in the half.

The Hawks took control in the second half, as Quincy Mitchell scored on a 2-yard run and Gale Ball broke a 56-yard touchdown run to make it 20-2 after three quarters.

Javante Grant’s touchdown run extended the Hawks’ lead to 27-2 with 3:51 left before Donovin Ling’s 14-yard touchdown run provided the final margin.
