The atmosphere was electric for the Hilton Head Christian Academy football team’s debut on its new home campus in Bluffton, and the Eagles rose to meet the moment.
Jace Blackshear threw three touchdown passes and rushed for three more scores, and Joseph “Speedy” Robinson and Jackson Lanier each had rushing and receiving scores to lead the Eagles to a 53-0 rout of region rival Orangeburg Prep on a festive Friday night.
The Eagles wasted no time testing their new scoreboard, as Blackshear broke several tackles on a relentless touchdown run to open the scoring. After a quick defensive stop, Blackshear flipped the ball forward to a streaking Morgan Bedenbaugh, who took the jet sweep 85 yards up the sideline. Then it was Blackshear again, freelancing on a well-covered pass play to scramble for a 15-yard score and set the rout in motion.
Blackshear added another TD run in the first half before getting some of his teammates in on the scoring. Robinson broke a touchdown run and took a swing pass 80 yards to the house, and Lanier capped the scoring with a touchdown reception and a short TD run.
HHCA’s defense was dominant with Lanier leading the way with two forced fumbles. Orangeburg Prep had only three first downs until the final drive of the fourth quarter against HHCA’s reserves.
The Eagles (3-0, 2-0) travel to Colleton Prep for a non-region matchup Friday.
