May River’s girls continued their recent surge in Region 7-4A play with a 37-26 home win over Beaufort High on Tuesday.
In a matchup of teams who were coming in hot — Beaufort had won two straight and the Sharks were coming off a big win over Hilton Head High — May River set the tone with a stifling defensive effort.

Beaufort’s Layla Warren scored 17 points, but with only seven players dressed and without No. 2 scorer Quinn Wilson, she wasn’t able to do enough to carry the Eagles.
The Sharks used a balanced effort — eight players scored at least three points — with Morgan Kinlaw-Scott leading the way with nine points and Jordan Bigham adding seven. Ki’Ayisa Moultrie added seven points for Beaufort.
The Sharks led by two after the first quarter and 16-13 at halftime before beginning to pull away after the break as the short-handed Eagles faded down the stretch.
