HSBB: Rawson’s Buzzer-Beater Lifts Heritage To First Win

Despite turmoil off the court, the Heritage Academy basketball team pulled out a big win Saturday at the Pete Hollis Showcase in Greenville.

Kyle Rawson’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer lifted the Hammerheads to a 64-63 win over Westridge Academy (N.C.), giving Heritage its first regular-season win.

It was a bit of much-needed positive news for the program, whose founder is facing federal visa fraud charges. The program has reorganized under coach Cody Hopkins’ new Hilton Head Sports LLC and will continue to play a national schedule.

Jakobe Dill scored 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, Rawson added 14 points, Dallaz Corbitt recorded his first double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Sam Norton chipped in 11 points and three steals in the win.

The Hammerheads (1-2) lost to Liberty Heights (N.C.) 64-56 on Friday.

Heritage is back in action Dec. 1-2 at the Falcon Classic hosted by United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte. The Hammerheads will face York Prep Academy and United Faith Christian in the event.
