Beach Bum Triathlon Hits Coligny Saturday Morning

The first of two Atlantic Community Bank Beach Bum Triathlon races this summer is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday on Coligny Beach.

If you’ve ever considered giving triathlons a try, this is the place to start. It’s a sprint triathlon that takes place entirely on the beach – well, and in the Atlantic Ocean – and is always a fun event.

The race begins with a 500-meter ocean swim – with the current, thankfully – followed by a 6-mile beach bike and a 3-mile beach run. The top 10 finishers in each gender in three ages groups – 39-and-under, 40-59, and 60-and-over – earn some of the most unique race awards you’ll ever see (we won’t spoil the surprise if you don’t already know).

Even if you’re not a triathlete, you can get in on the action by putting together a relay team of two or three participants who can split the disciplines.

If you aren’t quite ready to race yet, you have six weeks to get into gear before the second race in the series, which is scheduled for July 29.
